Prior to the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) of 1918 market gunning was a way of life for many watermen living on lakes, bays and coastal waterways. They made their own boats, guns and developed many techniques to harvest more waterfowl, make a living and feed a hungry nation. The replicas I make are examples of the boats used during this time period.
